Hi everyone, I’m Rob Daugherty and the owner and founder of TheVestGuy.com. We have been in business since 1990 so we’re coming up on 26 years at the time of making this video. A lot of the questions I receive will be covered in this video.
“How did you get started?”
I have about 16 years of law enforcement background in Oregon, where I come from originally. I saw the need for some better gear, honestly. I would go out to the range and do some target practicing and when I got out there, I would need to run back to my vehicle for something and I’d do that over and over. That’s when I knew I needed a vest or something to carry the stuff I take to the range all the time. So I can up with a shooter’s vest and it turned out really good. It was the first one we ever made.
I took it down to a law enforcement supply house in Portland, Oregon, and showed them. They said, “Change these pockets around, put this on, put some AR pockets and stuff like that and bring it back.” Two weeks later I took them down a sample, held it up, and asked, “How many do ya want?” I asked kind of jokingly, a little cocky, but more jokingly. He looked at the vest, felt it, then said, “Give me 25.” That is how TheVestGuy.com got started. Since then, we have been manufacturing for all types of organizations.
“Who have you made products for?”
I think I have hit every branch of the military, law enforcement, police departments, sheriffs, FBI, tons of fire departments. I have provided most products for fire departments, CERT, EMS, divisions like that (that use reflective safety vests) though TheVestGuy.com photography vests are a pretty close second best seller.
“Where are your products manufactured?”
I am always asked where our products are made. Although I can mention our office and small manufacturing plant are located in North Salt Lake, Utah, people will ask where our products are made. The conversation can continue for 20-30 minutes and they will again ask where our products made. People typically think the answer will be China, India, or some other place even though I already said all TheVestGuy.com products are physically made, from start to finish, 100% at our facility in North Salt Lake, Utah. We make products from the ground up. We receive rolls of material, cut it to the pattern and shape of the vest (or whatever we’re making) and sew it up right then.
“What kind of turnaround time should I expect?”
One vest may take 1-2 days for a custom vest (CUSTOM!) which is faster than most places can get you a standard vest elsewhere. If we are super busy or are want 10, 20, 30, 50 vests it will generally take a little longer time. One of the biggest orders we’ve had was 750 vests and the smallest orders are commonly 1-10 vests which we do all the time.
“What makes TheVestGuy.com unique?”
There are a lot of people out there manufacturing similar products but our products are CUSTOM. If you see something on our website and the radio pouch is on one side and you’re left handed and you want the radio pouch on the other side; if it’s a holster and you want a cross draw; anything like that, you won’t pay any extra for that. Say for instance you don’t need a radio pouch, you substitute a double pistol mag pouch and usually at no extra charge.
“What sizes do you make? Do you take special orders?”
Our products offer many customizations. Some big and tall men who are 6’6” or 6’8” tall or who weigh 300 or 400 pounds have come to use looking for products; we have sizes that accommodate all needs. To customize you simply measure from the top of your shoulder down to your waist (that’s the length you need) and then measure your chest and see which size range you fit into as far as the width. (See http://www.thevestguy.com/sizing_chart for our size chart.) It’s pretty simple.
Whatever you are looking for, we can make it. You can mix and match our designs, pockets, colors, and material choices (we offer mesh or material) or we can create a completely new design for you.
Present us with your ideas. Want to mass produce something and need a prototype first? We have done several prototypes so if you can envision it, we can create it.
Whatever your needs are, give us a call. Steffany runs our day-to-day operations and will answer your call at (801)725-0076. You can also order by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org
No order is too small or too big, we can handle either. We are coming up on 26 years of manufacturing all types of things. We’re not limited to vests; we also make slings, bags, armbands, all kinds of items. Everything we make comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty so if anything comes unstitched, a zipper breaks, anything like that, send it back and we’ll take care of it.
Thank you for watching, we’ll be in touch, and look forward to your order.
